At the Saloon

Hey guys,

Long time no see on here. I am finally getting some work done again. This time in anim8or for the latest anim8or.com challenge.

It is a frame from a movie.. The sheriff has a personal 'matter' to settle with a criminal. The criminal is in the saloon, and the sheriff is walking in the saloon to take care of the case. Since their difference is personal he takes off his badge and drops it to the floor.. what is going to happen?

What do you think of this piece?

I have to say, that looks beautiful. I was thinking about joining that challenge if I could find the time. The only thing I really have to say about this is that the final render looks as if I'm watching it on a static tv set with that noise filter. Was that intentional. Besides that, its cool.

I'm not going to repeat what I said before... so I'll just stick to the most important part.

THAT'S BEAUTIFUL! haha

But seriously, I hope you post this to the gallery, wonderful image.

As siragin and hihosilver have pointed out; looks beautiful! ;)

One thing if the challenge is still on: you may want to add another layer to the textures of the boots and the jeans to make it appear more rugged or used, maybe just some dust or something - right now they look (in my opinion) too new and shiny to be convincing I guess.

Welcome back!

And another solid piece from you.

Would you mind me adding this to the CGN Gallery?

I agree, slightly.  I love the cinematic framing of the scene, maybe just tone down the noise a bit?

Thanks guys!

If I want to add dirt, it will have to be in photoshop.. since anim8or can't use an alpha map on the reflections, dirty parts will still have reflections on them if i dirty them up with a texture.
Since it is an anim8or.com challenge I want to keep it as purely anim8or as I can so I guess I will leave it like this.

I could however wear the jeans down a bit, I'll give it a try, hope it doesn't look out of place.

Theproducer: I've deleted the photoshop file by accident.. I'm afraid I can't tone down the noise now without having to go through the whole process again..  I guess it is just an older movie that has a lot of noise ;)

If it's alright you could add it like this to the gallery?

*cough*gallery*cough*

and a quick question,

I just realized your alpha map only includes the boots/pants and sheriffs badge.  I figured you did the background through filtering out what you rendered with the alpha channel, but without the wood paneling and all in the alpha map I was wondering what exactly you used it for!  Did you simply use the magic wand tool in photoshop to take out the background and put in a new one?

Yea I extended the alpha map manually by selecting the parts i wanted to filter out. Since the outlines were straight lines it wasnt too hard. I had to think a bit though to get the right layers and stuff selected to blur/mask etc.
