I first painted the image (only in sepia, the shop ran out of black ink :P ) with ink, scanned it in, plonked it into Photoshop and coloured it in!
The rest is history ;).

hahaha, the hands are what got me really, I've been trying to make it more like he's got both arms like that, so that he would have his hands inside his sleeves...

Personally I think you may want a background that fits the character better. In other words I feel this background is too sleek and glowy.
Perhaps something that reflects the inked style you have for the character would be best.
