This not really a WIP but I am too lazy to resize all my renders to 800px.
Done in maya I decided to make myself in 3D. I used a combo of Maya hair and fur for the hair.

Looking good. My little critique would be to soften the edges around the eyes a little and to add the...ummm...pink stuff? around the eye. Whatev it is called. Oh!... and maybe a texture on the lips. You did a great job though.

I use Maya 8.5 and I have been doing 3D for about 4 years now...started with Anim8or and now use Lightwave and maya.
